Ingredients:
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 1 packet dry yeast (7g or 2 tsp)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 250ml warm water
- 100ml milk
- 1 tbsp yogurt (optional, for extra softness)
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
- Sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, olive oil, and milk.
- Mix until a dough forms. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour. If it’s too dry, add a little water.
- Knead the Dough:
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- Shape the Bread:
- Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F).
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 2-3 equal portions, depending on how big you want the loaves.
- Roll each portion into a flat circle or oval shape, about 1 cm thick.
- Place the shaped dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Topping & Baking:
- Brush the top of each flatbread with a little egg yolk (you can mix it with a bit of water for a smoother consistency).
- Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds or nigella seeds on top for extra flavor and crunch.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown with crispy edges.
- Serve:
- Let the bread cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve. It’s perfect with dips, salads, or as a side with Turkish dishes like kebabs or stews.
Enjoy your homemade Turkish flatbread!
