A classic British dessert!  Apple Crumble & Custard:

Ingredients:

Ingredients:

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup butter

For the Crumble Topping:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats

For the Custard:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the apple filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until the apples are evenly coated.
  3. Make the crumble topping: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and cold butter. Use your fingers or a pastry blender to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the rolled oats.
  4. Assemble the crumble: Transfer the apple mixture to a 9×9-inch baking dish and top with the crumble mixture.
  5. Bake the crumble: Bake the crumble in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  6. Make the custard: In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, heavy cream, and granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is hot but not boiling. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and vanilla extract. Gradually add the hot milk mixture to the egg yolks, whisking constantly.
  7. Serve: Serve the warm apple crumble with the custard poured over the top.
