Beef and Cheese Wellington
This Beef and Cheese Wellington is a savory, comforting dish with a crispy, golden puff pastry on the outside and a deliciously flavorful beef filling inside, combined with spinach and melted cheese. It’s perfect for a special dinner or a hearty family meal.
You’ll Need:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 sheet puff pastry (gluten-free if needed)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 7-8 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce (if using).
- Add the chopped spinach to the beef mixture and cook for another 2-3 minutes until wilted. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place the beef and spinach mixture in the center, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the beef mixture.
- Fold the pastry over the filling to form a log, sealing the edges. Brush the top of the pastry with the beaten egg for a golden, shiny finish.
- Use a sharp knife to make a few slits on the top of the pastry to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and puffed.
- Let the Wellington rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
